Our ultrasound a couple days ago went great. The technician took us into the darkened room where I laid down on the bed and Gene sat in a chair next to me. She told us to keep an eye on the TV screen while she squeezed some warm gel on my tummy and brought the "joystick" to my tummy.
I don't know why but we were both so shocked when the image popped up! I think we were waiting for trailers of upcoming attractions, a chance to settle into our seats, and eat a few bites of popcorn. But clear as day on the black and white screen was our little one, lying down, feet crossed, sucking on his/her thumb. Gene kept on saying, "Wow! Crazy! That was so quick!"
The technician spent some time guiding us through the images....a little foot with 5 toes, a little hand, a little nose. And the whole time, the baby was moving around, bouncing and tossing his/her head back like he/she was giggling. We even got to see a little yawn. Yes, my eyes started welling up when Gene squeezed my hand - this was our little family.
The ultrasound confirmed that twins were NOT in my tummy (phew!) and my due date was pretty accurate. I am 13 weeks along in my pregnancy and my due date is December 29! Poor little buddy is going to endure a lifetime on lumped Christmas/birthday gifts...but I promise that mommy and daddy will always get him/her separate gifts.
We will be finding out the sex of the baby at 20 weeks, so in about 2 more months.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get electronic copies of the ultrasound pictures, so when I get them scanned I'll post them.
An update on my symptoms:
Still no morning sickness (thank God for my mom's good genes)
Recent cravings for apple pie (Gene went to Nation's at 10pm to get me a pie)
Nasal congestion/allergies (due to pregnancy hormones that cause swelling of mucous membranes)
Loose joints, especially in my pelvis and hips (due to a hormone called Relaxin)
Thirst (specifically for ice water)
