Ahhh...September is finally OVER

You will not believe the month we've had.

It was Labor Day weekend and my family was in town. Mom and Dad had flown in from Portland and my brother and his wife from Honolulu. Everyone was in town to celebrate a baby shower for my brother and his wife, as well as spend some quality time together as a family.

The evening of the baby shower we went to eat pho with the whole family. It had been a fun day so far but things turned south in a flash. The delicious food came in a steady stream out from the kitchen and to our table. And then out came a bowl of pho (hot beef noodle soup) as it was placed a little too close to Marley. In an instant, Marley's little hand came up and grabbed the edge of the bowl. Then WHOOSH...down came the hot broth as it spilled all over his body. Then came a few seconds of silence as Marley's breath stuck in his lungs, followed by his shriek.

We rushed him to a local ER and soon found out that he sustained 2nd degree burns over his chest, stomach, left arm and hand, as well as both legs. In the next few days following the incident, he developed an infection in his left leg. Well, it's been several weeks and his burns are all healed and his infection is gone.

Then 2 weeks ago Marley developed a fever that reached 104.3 and brought us to the emergency room one more time.

Some other things that happened this month:

My father took ill and went to the hospital for what he thought was a stroke.

Chaser (our 13 year old black lab mix) was gored by the antlers of a stag. He got too close to the deer in our neighborhood who were protecting their fawn and got beat up! His abdomen and hind leg were punctured and he had one of his canine teeth knocked out. He also bled all over the house and we had to get the carpets steam cleaned.

After Chaser had surgery he went missing! I guess it was a combination of separation anxiety and being high from pain pills, but after Gene and I went to work Chaser went missing for two days. I thought he dead - that he'd gone off into the woods somewhere to pass away because he was having a tough recovery from surgery. But after putting up "Lost Dog" signs in the neighborhood I received a call from a women who found him! Long story short, I found Chaser looking completely forlorn in a kennel at the Oakland Animal Shelter.

I've also had a rough month at work - mostly because I've been sleep deprived and stressed out, making it hard to focus while I'm there.

But it's a new month! We got through it and it's made us stronger in the long run.

Oh! But check this out...Marley's riding bikes with us now! We went to Carmel for a one night trip to gain a little bit of sanity and took Marley on his first bike ride in the trailer. The video below is of us hanging out in the hotel room.
