December 19th was Marley's 1st Birthday and we celebrated by holding a traditional Korean "Dhol" celebration for him. He wore a traditional Korean costume and we sat at the "dhol sang" (1st birthday table) which was decorated with korean rice cakes, fruit, a birthday cake, korean pastries, and several items that symbolized Marley's future: rice for prosperity, noodles and thread for long life, pencils and pens for writing, and books for scholarship.
Since we married in 2006 we started a tradition of taking a family photo in front of our Christmas tree. The first year we bought a small potted evergreen and named her "Merry." Each subsequent year Merry has gotten bigger and bigger! This year we also decided to buy an artificial tree because Merry doesn't look like she'll make it for much longer. But we'll see...stay tuned for next year's picture!
